At the annual Romance Writers of America conference in Dallas, Gayle won the RITA Award for the Best Inspriational Romance of the Year for her title AUTUMN DREAMS. It was a fun night, sort of like the Oscars. There were evening gowns, presenters, sealed envelopes, golden statuettes, and acceptance speeches.
"This is very sweet," Gayle said. "Though I write for an Audience of One, it is still very sweet to be recognized like this." She thanked Multnomah and her editor, Julee Schwarzburg. She also thanked her husband Chuck, "my own personal patron of the arts."
Gayle has been through these award programs before as a finalist both for the RITA and the Christy. What a delight it was to win, to smile broadly because of joy instead of because it's always proper to be a good sport. AUTUMN DREAMS also won the Holt Medallion as Best Long Inspirational of the Year. This is Gayle's third Holt, the previous ones being for THE DECISION and CAUGHT IN A BIND. Earlier this year she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Romantic Times Book Review.
